Bring the real routine

Tell the stylist what happens after you wash your hair and how you usually wear it the next day. Include the tools you use, the amount of time you have and anything you routinely skip. If you do not know a product’s name, a photograph of its label may be clearer than a guess. There is no benefit in describing a more elaborate routine than the one you intend to follow.

Identify one frustrating step

Choose a specific problem to discuss: arranging a fringe, controlling the outline, getting a parting to sit as you want, or keeping enough length for a tie. Explain when it happens and what you have tried. A stylist can discuss the appearance and practical styling choices; a persistent medical scalp concern needs an appropriate health professional rather than a promised haircut solution.

Ask for a demonstration you can repeat

If a finish is demonstrated, ask which step matters most and what you can simplify. Confirm how a product should be used by reading its own directions rather than copying an amount from a different product. Ask whether the look can be achieved with your existing tools before buying anything new. Avoid assuming that a product shown in the salon is necessary for every client.

Keep a short note for next time

After living with the cut, note what was easy, what was difficult and what you would change. A photograph you take yourself can help explain the result at a later consultation. The AAD’s general advice includes selecting products suited to hair type and avoiding excessive heat; the practical routine still needs to suit you. Contact Brownes to discuss the requested appointment and current services.
